Congrats to our 2020 RFMy Award Winners

Congrats to all of our amazing RFMy award winners who were recognized at our RFMA 2020 Annual Conference last month! We were excited to recognize our hard working members for their service and dedication to RFMA and the restaurant facilities industry. 

 

Our 2020 RFMy Award Winners presented at the Tuesday General Session luncheon at RFMA 2020

 

Jack McNertney MVP Award
Danny Koontz, Collier Restaurant Group

Danny has been a RFMA member since our inception. For anyone who has ever worked for or with Danny, you know he is a force of nature. He has a big personality and an even bigger heart. Over the past 15 years he been an integral part of our association, serving on the original panel of restaurateurs who helped to found RFMA. He is a trusted advisor who Tracy says she can always count on for candid feedback. Congrats Danny!

 

 

 

Restaurateur of the Year Award
Tony Elrod, ZAX LLC dba Zaxby's

Tony joined RFMA in 2014 and has been a valued member ever since. He serves as co-chair on the Resources Committee and is also on the Franchisee Task Force, where he has been instrumental in working with RFMA to help us grow that portion of our membership. He participates on nearly every Peer to Peer and Peer to Partner Call, and voluntarily hosted a restaurant roundtable events at his office. Congrats Tony!

 

 

 

Vendor of the Year Award
Bill Schaphorst, MaintenX International

Bill has been a RFMA member since 2012. His RFMA involvement has included serving on the Communications & Publications Committee and Resources Committee (for which he received the Resources Rockstar Award), moderating Peer to Partner calls and writing many articles for Facilitator magazine. Congrats Bill!

 

 

 

Marvelous Mentor Award: Restaurant
Billy To, CRFP, Panda Restaurant Group, Inc.

Billy To was nominated by Shawn Coe from Panda. Shawn said that Billy invested his personal time to prepare him for the role of a Facility Manager with Panda. After his hire, Billy placed Shawn through a mini-boot camp in operations and his approach to development was to not give the answers, but to encourage Shawn to think for himself and come up with the answer with the resources that Panda provides. Shawn says he is more confident in his role and his development and effectiveness with operations has been accelerated because of under Billy’s mentorship. Congrats Billy!

 

 

Marvelous Mentor Award: Vendor
Krystal Vasquez, CRFP, Chain Store Maintenance

Krystal is an integral team player that assists with the functioning of Chain Store Maintenance's Business Development Department. Krystal uses her knowledge and experience to act as liaison between their customers and CSM’s departments to achieve an ongoing positive experience and partnership and she coaches her team to provide exceptional customer service. Krystal served as a mentor in RFMA’s 2019 Mentorship program and was a moderator on the Leadership Lessons Call for Young Professionals. In addition, Krystal is a new RFMA member who achieved the CRFP designation in her first year. Congrats Krystal!

 

 

Rookie of the Year Award
Jorge Guevara, CRFP, The Habit Burger Grill

Jorge stepped into the Facilities Manager role at The Habit Burger Grill in November 2018 and has gone above and beyond in learning with enthusiasm while serving the Operations team. He recently attained his CRFP this past December and his supervisor could not be more proud! His dedication to Facilities surpasses all expectations. Congrats Jorge!

 

 

 

The Innovator Award: Restaurant
Luis Guasch, Bahama Breeze

Luis worked closely with Darden Design team to implement a special patio refresh program for 9 Bahama Breeze's requested by the Brand President to be completed in 2 months including permitting. Luis and his vendor worked diligently to solve many issues with the building departments of the various cities to obtain permits and get the projects completed on time. This major revenue driving project was in addition to all his normal facility projects and at the end he received kudos from the President and the brand for getting this accomplished. Congrats Luis! 

 

 

 

The Innovator Award: Vendor
Josh Zolin, Windy City Equipment Service dba WCE

Josh authored a book called “Blue is the New White” in which he highly encourages young men and women to consider learning a trade rather than just going to college. According to Josh, our industry is in need of a revitalization of our youth to become trades people once again. Josh chose to do something about what he strongly believes and has helped to further this cause. Congrats Josh!

 

 

 

The Shooting Star Award
Jenna Dominguez, Branded Group

Jenna focuses on inside sales and fostering trusted relationships for Branded Group. She oversees more than fifty customer accounts and has more than quadrupled her sales goals by growing her new accounts by twenty-five percent.  She began her facility maintenance career at Branded Group as an administrative assistant before being offered the role of Sales Representative. She quickly adapted and thrived in the new role where she is an innovative member of the sales team, who is fully committed to her client’s success. Congrats Jenna!

 

  

Lifetime Achievement Award
Tom Cullen, Facility Solutions

Tom's support and loyalty to RFMA's cause has been unwavering over the years. Tom retired at the end of 2019 and his example should stand as a model for current and future RFMA members. He is passionate about passing along knowledge to those coming behind him in the restaurant facilities industry. As a vendor he was laser focused on not only making sure his customer was successful, but also that the person who hired him would be successful in their role as well. His passion to find solutions to problems that others couldn't, and providing education and knowledge in all aspects of his relationships, helped him make lifelong friends out of the people he worked for or interacted with during his time with Facility Solutions and RFMA. He is down to earth, honest and open, and fiercely loyal to his customers. Congrats Tom!

 

 

RFMA Gives Go Getter Award
Josh Rains, CRFP, Romano’s Macaroni Grill

This is the second time Josh has been a project manager of a RFMA Gives project, the first being at the SAME Café in Denver in 2012. Josh’s passion for giving back is obvious and his “can-do” attitude on getting the projects completed at the Stout Street Foundation was fantastic. His positivity contributed to the success at this year’s project and all involved appreciated his efforts. Congrats Josh!

Michael Brown, General Parts

The Member Engagement Enthusiast Award goes to the strongest contributor to the Member Engagement Committee, who works closely with the membership staff to engage members in RFMA activities and events. Congrats Michael!

 

 

 

Fantastic Franchisee Award
Bob Blum, Hinckley Management Group

The Fantastic Franchisee Award goes to someone from the Franchisee Committee who puts in that extra effort to promote RFMA and is passionate about helping in our continuing efforts to bringing in new franchisee members. Congrats Bob!

 

 

 

Education Excellence Award
Jeff Wells, CRFP, Bojangles Restaurants Inc.

The Education Excellence Award goes to a member of the education committee for their outstanding contribution to our Conference Curriculum Committee. Congrats Jeff!

 

 

 

Resources Rockstar Award
Mary Taylor, Mahoney Environmental

The Resources Rockstar Award recognizes the person who has been a huge help in working with the Resources Committee to build our resource library and coordinate the committee’s activities. Congrats Mary!

 

 

 

Editor Extraordinaire Award
Paul Doughty, CRFP, Red Lobster

The Editor Extraordinaire Award recognizes a member of the Facilitator Magazine Editorial Board for their careful review of all our submissions and their commitment to editorial excellence. Congrats Paul!

 

 

 

Vendor Voice Valued Volunteer Award
Jeremy Cuellar, CRFP, Ameritech Facility Services

The Vendor Voice Valued Volunteer Award recognizes a member of the Vendor Voice Committee for their passionate participation and representation of their peers in the vendor community, as this group discusses and weighs the benefits of new initiatives being considered by RFMA. Congrats Jeremy!

 

 

 

Boss of Buzz Award
Fred Leon, Bagel Brands

This award goes to a member of the newly formed Buzz Council Task Force who has helped to increase’s RFMA’s social media presence and content. Congrats Fred!
