I hope you are having a great fall and that things are looking up and moving forward for you and your company. Things are certainly continuing in the right direction for us here at RFMA. I can't remember when I have been more energized or seen such monumental growth since the very early years of our development as an association. We already have more restaurateurs registered for the 2012 conference 5 months in advance than we had attend the conference in 2011. And there will certainly be many more who will jump on board in the months to come, as new companies are joining our ranks every day. You can go to the
RFMA 2012 website and see the scrolling list of restaurant companies who are already registered to attend, and click on the exhibitor tab to see the vendors and suppliers who are supporting our event and will be onsite to help fulfill our members' needs.

I hope you will continue to look to RFMA as your Networking, Education and Resource hub, and let us know what we can do for YOU!

Warm regards,
Tracy Tomson

Winner Selected in the 3rd Quarter iPad Drawing

to Dino Tatangelo with Starbucks, who won an iPad in the quarterly drawing for the RFMA Member-Get-A-Member campaign. Dino recruited his colleague, Amy Levine to join RFMA and his name went into the drawing held on October 1. Welcome to RFMA, Amy! So go out and share your passion for RFMA and if a new restaurant member joins and names you as the person who referred them, your will receive a $5 Starbucks gift card and get your name in the drawing. For every new restaurant member you recruit, you will get an additional entry in the the drawing, to be held on January 1. Good Luck!

RFMA Gives Needs YOU!

Now that the 2012 recipient of the kitchen remodel has been selected, we need YOU and your company to step up and volunteer to provide the goods and services to make this dream a reality for the SAME Cafe' in Denver, Colorado. RFMA members were so generous this year with their time, talents and resources. There wasn't a dry eye in the house as Shannon Santos of the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen in Costa Mesa, CA expressed her gratitude during the RFMA 2011 general session to the RFMA Gives volunteers and contributors who made such a difference for them. You have an opportunity to give to our newest project and feel that same sense of pride and accomplishment that our participants felt this year. Click here to download a PDF of our newest project and the list of needs that you can help fulfill. If you are interested in participating, please contact Heather Webb at

RFMA-U to Present Our Next Webinar on October 28
"Minimize Maintenance Costs through an Improved Initial Pavement Design"

Date: Friday, October 28, 2011 10AM CENTRAL (11:00 ET / 8:00 PT / 9:00 MT)
Duration: 90 minutes
Cost: $25 for Members $75 for Non-members

Unfortunately asphalt parking lots fail for many reasons; deficient pavement thickness design is just one of those reasons. In this session we will review vehicle loading, soil stabilization, proper drainage, and define heavy versus light duty pavement thickness designs in this webinar. We will also discuss how all asphalt is not the same. That specifying and ensuring the proper asphalt is supplied to your project will be detailed and we will develop a check list to ensure 100% compliance. Questions are encouraged to be sent along ahead of time to ensure we openly discuss your challenges and successes with the entire group.

Presenter: Timothy R. Murphy, P.E.
After graduating from the Illinois Institute of Technology in December 1984 and acquiring his professional engineering license in Illinois in 1990, Timothy Murphy began to quickly move up the ranks of the Illinois Department of Transportation. After leaving IDOT in 1994 he joined the Asphalt Institute, which is a non-profit organization that promotes the proper use of asphalt mostly throughout the U.S., however there were occasions to assist engineers with asphalt worldwide. This business plan has been continued with his work as president for Chicago Testing Laboratory and, currently, Murphy Pavement Technology.
