Calling all restaurateurs! ENERGY STAR needs your help!
As you know, ENERGY STAR is not just for energy saving consumer products. It's for buildings, too. And soon, restaurants may be able to earn the ENERGY STAR as well. We need your help to make this possible! The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will use data from an industry survey to inform the development of an ENERGY STAR 1-100 score for restaurants. Certain high-performing restaurants may even be able to earn ENERGY STAR certification and place a plaque on their building.

How Can ENERGY STAR Benefit Your Restaurant?
RFMA is partnering with the National Restaurant Association and the other organizations listed below to conduct a survey that will result in the development of an ENERGY STAR 1-100 score for restaurants:

We need your input. Take the survey NOW.

Facilitator: How the Insite community helps Females in Facilities group
We have seen a great amount of participation in several of our social media groups for RFMA. Along with RFMA's groups and discussions on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, Insite is RFMA's own online community especially for RFMA members. It is the perfect place for dialogue and discussion for both restaurant and vendor members. One of the member groups on Insite is Females in Facilities. This group was created to allow female facilities professionals and vendor partners to network with each other and share common interests and concerns. Here, we highlight two female RFMA members who are making a difference in the industry.

Latest restaurant equipment is technically minded, stands to increase sales
Marlin Finance
While the usual idea of restaurant equipment is that of an oven, fryer or other machine that helps improve cooking, the latest innovations in the industry are more high-tech and have the added effect of boosting sales. Chili's Grill and Bar, after testing tablets at their tables that will let diners order beverages, buy desserts and even pay their bill, plans to roll the devices out to most of its 1,266 restaurants by early 2014.

U.S. restaurant traffic increased by 1 percent in the second quarter of 2013 while consumer spending, driven primarily by average check growth, increased by 3 percent, according to The NPD Group, a global information company. Front-line managers make the difference
A wise marketing professor once said that when things go wrong, more often than not, it isn't because the strategy was bad; it was because the strategy was executed poorly or not at all. In other words, nobody made it happen.

Regular inspections, testing offer long-term reliability for door locks, hardware
Facility Maintenance Decisions
The process of specifying and installing door hardware — from hinges and closers to locks and handles — is only part of the task of upgrading a facility's safety and security systems. Maintenance and engineering managers also must ensure door openings and hardware comply with regulatory, functional, security, budgetary and maintenance requirements without sacrificing appearance.

Digital menu boards: More than just a menu
Digital Signage Today
Take a quick look around any restaurant, sports bar, food court or any other dining establishment and it's plain to see that digital menu boards are one of the fastest-growing segments of digital signage. And it's easy to understand why: The screens are smart and stylish, and they give a polished, high-tech feel to the establishment. Equally important, the menus can be updated with ease to reflect new offers, new pricing and new labeling regulations.

Today's Facility Manager
