Projects are Proceeding at The Salvation Army

Hello RFMA Members,

There has been numerous projects completed over the past several weeks at the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (SAAR) in Phoenix. They have made a significant impact of the organization by saving them valuable capital dollars along with improving the overall moral of the residents. Thanks in advance to the all the companies and individuals who are making this happen. Following is a brief review of the completed jobs:

-          Mad Jack’s Asphalt and Concrete replaced numerous areas in front of the warehouse where the SAAR delivery trucks have worn out and cracked the existing parking lot. The amount of replacement was huge and it looks great.

-          Roll-A-Shade supplied and replaced window coverings with blinds in over 40 rooms in the facility. These make the room ambience better and will be a tremendous help during the brutally hot Phoenix summers.

-          Legacy Air paid for new dropped ceilings that were installed in the movie and rec rooms and KDC Construction removed the existing and installed the new. Take a look at the photos. The rooms look great.

-          Red Lobster supplied the new red carpet squares for the movie and rec rooms along with the hallway in the first floor. Progressive Flooring completed the installation. Looks sharp. The residents love their newly remodeled rooms.

-          KDC Construction made numerous repairs in the kitchen BOH to the walls and ceilings. New FRP was installed throughout. The kitchen staff was impressed.

There are still a few projects remaining and they are scheduled to start in mid February. The existing 40 year old a/c coils in the 30 residents rooms will be replaced. This will help the rooms maintain a cooler temperature in the summer and save on utilities. The Salvation Army purchased all the units and Micah Dyer, CRFP, with Legacy Air is coordinating the installations. The installing companies are: Legacy Air, Andrew's Refrigeration, and TDIndustries.

I continue to be humbled by our membership who consistently donate their time, services, and/or money to this worthwhile event.

Also, special thanks to the Project Managers: Vern Huskey, Starbucks, Micah Dyer, CRFP, Legacy Air, and Tim Vanacker, CRFP, Kilwins Chocolate Franchise, Inc. The overall project would not be where it’s at without their passion on coordinating and seeing the jobs get completed with minimal interruption to the Salvation Army.

Stay tuned for more updates. We’re not done yet!

Projects Are Rolling !!!

Updated: Wednesday, December 6, 2017

Hello RFMA members,

Projects are moving along nicely at the Salvation Army in Phoenix. Following is a brief summary:

-           All the ceiling fluorescent ceiling light fixtures in the first floor were upgraded to LED type, saving valuable utility and replacement bulb dollars. Thanks to Vixxo Sign and Lighting for supplying the fixtures and Legacy Air for installation. The new light levels are great.

-           All the shower stalls in the east side of the community restroom have been completely rebuilt and are now usable with no leaking downstairs. The center section with all new sinks, mirrors, lights, plumbing fixtures and soap dispensers is under construction and is scheduled to be completed by Christmas. The final phase of rebuilding the west side shower stalls will commence in January. Thanks to CGP Construction, TD Industries, Ferguson Plumbing, Creative Materials Corporation, Galaxy Builders, KDC Construction, Panda Restaurant Group and Starbucks for donating the materials and labor to complete such a large project. It looks sharp and the residents are proud to be using the new facility.

-           A new concrete floor was poured in the old walk in cooler/freezer location in the kitchen BOH area, thanks to Andrew’s Refrigeration. This room will now be used for storage.

-           Roll-A-Shade will be installing new window coverings in over 40 rooms which will make a big difference after the old curtains were removed.

-           Big thanks to Westrock for supplying the construction dumpster(s) for all the above mentioned projects.

-           Another thanks to Legacy Air for warehousing the equipment and materials used for several of these projects.

-           A new water softening system was supplied and installed by Kinetico. This will help immensely with water quality and equipment maintenance due to the high hardness of the water in Phoenix.

-           Thanks to Chipotle for supplying materials and their own labor to completely remodel four(4) existing employee restrooms in the second floor. Made a big difference.

-           A new BOH kitchen exterior door was supplied and installed by Vortex Industries. It looks great and increases the security for the Salvation Army kitchen staff.

-           Special thanks to the following companies that provided financial donations which helps fund the projects being completed: Painter Ready, Enevo, Inc., CGP Construction, KDC Construction, Clark Service Group, Desert West Builders, and DMC Facility Services.

-           Thanks to Major Dennis Earnhart of the Salvation Army and all of his staff who have been patient with the work proceeding in their facility.

-           A new a/c coil was supplied and installed in one of the residence rooms by Legacy Air for better cooling as it was over 40 years old. Made a huge difference. There are 32 more rooms with this system and we are feverishly looking for donors to purchase these.Trane will supply these at their cost. The approximate cost is $1000 per unit. Please contact me if you are interested in making a donation for some of these as they are needed. Feel free to contact me at: jeff@rfmaonline.com or phone me at (972) 805-0905, x-3.

-           Last, but definitely not least, a big shout out to the Co-Project Managers, Tim Vanacker (Desert West Builders), CRFP, Vern Huskey (Starbucks), and Micah Dyer (Legacy Air), CRFP. These guys have done a great job in getting donators for these projects and supervising them. None of this would be possible without their passionate assistance.

Stay tuned for more updates. We are on target to have the entire project completed by our conference in March. I truly apologize if I missed anyone in their contribution to these wonderful projects.
