Facility maintenance does not have to be a 4-letter word
Denny Hydrick
Diet is a quintessential "four-letter word" — a phrase that in years past often referred to expletives. Obviously that's a joke, but dieting to most people is no laughing matter. Why? Because first of all they require the resolve to begin and, secondly, a lifestyle change. Within the facility management industry, we have our own set of "four-letter words," although most are known by acronyms. Like diets, these too take a certain resolve to start implementing or tracking and, perhaps most importantly, they require the lifestyle change, referred to as a culture change.

Epic cold snap shutters restaurants across America
Eater
Restaurants across the U.S. are temporarily closing due to the current cold so-called "polar vortex." Battling ice? Try beet juice
The Associated Press via Belleville News-Democrat
Suburban Chicago's Morton Arboretum is using an unusual and environmentally friendly ingredient to keep roads and trails clear: beet juice. P.J. Smith is in charge of snow removal for the 1,700-acre outdoor tree museum in Lisle. He says mixing beet juice with rock salt clears the arboretum's 25 miles of trails and roads more quickly than salt alone. It also causes less harm to the arboretum's more than 190,000 plants.
