Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday and are refreshed, renewed and ready to start the year off with a bang. We are now just 8 weeks away from the RFMA 2012 Annual Conference and we are busily preparing for your arrival in Las Vegas. We will be sharing important information with you over the coming weeks to insure that you are prepared as well. I encourage you to take the time to read the information that we send out so there are no unwanted surprises. Past attendees will be able to reconnect with fellow members and we are all looking forward to meeting the hundreds of new restaurateurs and exhibitors who will be joining us this year.

Thanks to those who participated and voted in our Board elections to fill our four new Director-at-Large positions for 2012. We are very excited about the new additions to our Board of Directors. RFMA Gives Needs YOU

We are very excited that RFMA Gives 2012 is almost here! We hope to begin work and installation in mid-February, but before then, we still have some needs to complete the project for the SAME Cafe.

We are asking all RFMA members to look at the list below to see if you or your company would be willing to provide any of these products or donate funds for the remaining supplies to be purchased. Restaurant members please consider donating any equipment from restaurants under renovation or closing or donating personally your skills to help provide labor needed for the project.Vendor members please consider donating your services, skills, and supplies as well to RFMA Gives 2012.

Here our some donations we still need to complete RFMA Gives 2012:

-Exhaust fan
-Mega-top refrigerator
-Serving Counter top
-14 lineal feet of 8' high stainless wall flashing
-Sheet metal company to weld the ex. duct work and install the MUA duct work

The Ins and Outs of InSite: FORUMS

Last month The Dish debuted The Ins and Outs of InSite. We would like to ring in 2012 with some more InSite tips to help you navigate and utilize InSite! This month we would like to spotlight forums and discuss what they are and how they can help you.

What is a forum?
-A forum is a place where discussion and dialogue can occur between members. Some forums are public forums which any member can post on and some forums are private which can only be accessed in certain groups. If you post a comment on a forum it allows members to respond and comment back to your post. Starting posting today!

Where can I find forums on InSite?
-After you have logged into the RFMA website using your login information you can start accessing forums. Click here to go directly to the forum page or from our website go to the InSite tab and click forums in the drop down menu.
-Some groups, such as Females in Facilities, also have a forum. This forum can be accessed on the Females in Facilities group page on InSite.

What forums can I comment on or post a new topic on?
-If you are a Restaurant member you will be able to comment or post on both the Industry Exchange Forum, as well as, the Facility Manager Forum.
-If you are a Vendor member you will be able to comment or post on the Industry Exchange Forum.

How do I know if someone commented on my post?
- You can check back on the forum for a comment or to see what other forum activity has happened or you can subscribe to instant forum updates. To subscribe to these email updates you simply just go to the forums main page and at the top of the page click on "subscribe to instant updates." You can easily turn this update on and off whenever you would like the feature.

RFMA-U to Present Our Next Webinar on January 20th
"Developing a Competent and Complete Scope of Work"

There are many theories as to why an asphalt parking lot fails however once it fails what is the correct fix? In this session we will review failure mechanisms that are typical from across the nation and present techniques to diagnose and properly address (scope a project) the failures. An introduction to crack sealing, pavement patching, seal coating, and asphalt overlays will be part of this webinar as we build to the RFMA convention. Questions with pavement failure photographs are encouraged to be sent along ahead of time to ensure we openly discuss your findings and solutions with the entire group.

Presenter: Timothy R. Murphy, P.E.
After graduating from the Illinois Institute of Technology in December 1984 and acquiring his professional engineering license in Illinois in 1990, Timothy Murphy began to quickly move up the ranks of the Illinois Department of Transportation. After leaving IDOT in 1994 he joined the Asphalt Institute, which is a non-profit organization that promotes the proper use of asphalt mostly throughout the U.S., however there were occasions to assist engineers with asphalt worldwide. This business plan has been continued with his work as president for Chicago Testing Laboratory and, currently, Murphy Pavement Technology.

How to Attend: Join the live program from your office, home, or hotel room using a computer for the web portion and telephone for the audio portion. You may ask questions, participate in surveys, and post comments from your computer during the program. You may also invite colleagues to watch the program from a shared computer or projection screen and speakerphone. Please note that credit (if available) is only provided to registered attendees participating at their own computer and phone. Simple instructions with a link to the program will be sent when you register.
