Shawn Black, CRFP

Why did you join RFMA? When I started with CGP they were already a part of the organization. I saw it as a way to connect with new people and get the opportunity to learn more about our clients. I was not disappointed!

I love the energy. The members aren’t like other organizations. I feel like I could walk right up and start a conversation with anyone and they would be open to it! It’s one of the best things about RFMA, you just feel WELCOME!

Which RFMA Resource do you utilize the most and why? For me it’s using the find others feature of InSite. Always needing contact info and I know right where to find it when I am on the go.

Describe your best day. Honestly my best day happens as soon as my feet touch the ground. If I am above ground it’s the best day. I have very little rules when it comes to being happy. Being surrounded by my friends and family is just the icing on the cake.

If you weren’t in the Facilities Industry, what would you be doing?
That’s a great question; I think I would still be in construction. I love the idea of it! To create and build something that last for years and years. There is so much good that comes out of building.

What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
The Dishes

What is one of your favorite quotes?  That’s hard because there are so many influences on my life. One that shows up every day would be: “Remember that if you don’t prioritize your life someone else will”― Greg McKeown, Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less.

What is the most-played song on your iPod? “May We All” Florida Georgia Line

Do you have a secret talent and if so, what is it? I can wiggle my ears.

Tim Corcoran, PMP
Corporate Projects
Jack in the Box

What year did you join RFMA?
2012

Why did you join RFMA? To grow my knowledge and resources within the Facilities Industry.  Everything I learned up until that point in my career was through experiences on the job.  I wanted to enrich that and learn from others via networking and benchmarking.

What do you like most about RFMA? The people and the free-flow of ideas and information.  It has a great membership base that understands the value of helping others.

Which RFMA Resource do you utilize the most and why?
Two things I find great value in: our annual convention and the Facilitator magazine.  Our show offers great education opportunities as well as some great ways of networking.  The magazine offers great information as well, and also allows us to stay apprised of events and member activity within our industry.

What is your ideal vacation?  Hawaii and the Disney Aulani resort.  Just went there last year and it will definitely become a repeat trip.  Great balance of relaxation and fun for my wife and I, but also offers (as only Disney can) an amazing experience catered to the kids.

Who is your favorite sports team? The San Diego Chargers.  Yes, it has been a painful relationship, but one I can’t seem to pull away from.

What was the last book you read? Disrupt Yourself by Whitney Johnson. A book I recommend for those of you who are conservative when it comes to taking professional risks.

What is one of your favorite quotes? "What I hear I forget.  What I see I remember.  What I do, I understand." (Confucius)
