Facilitator Magazine - Submit an Article

Contributor/Writer's Guidelines

Facilitator magazine welcomes articles and suggestions for articles. Articles must be submitted on an exclusive basis and must not be under consideration by other publications. The organization and writing style should promote readability. Commercial promotion of a company or product should be avoided and will be deleted. Articles must be in Microsoft Word format and submitted electronically. A brief biographical sketch of each author should accompany the article, in addition to a headshot photo. Authors should keep a copy of all materials submitted.

Word Count and Style

As a general guideline, our word count preference for a one- to two-page column is to be anywhere from 800 to 1,100 words, and for a feature story to be anywhere from 1,200-1,800 words. Please also feel free to contribute information that would be appropriate for a sidebar for your story or topic to be displayed in a visual fashion outside of the text layout format. All articles will be edited for readability, style and accuracy. Authors will not be given the opportunity to approve editor’s changes. All features will follow Associated Press guidelines. Articles should be free of awkward constructions, such as parentheses and passive voice. Slang, profanity, commercialism, contractions and gender bias will be deleted. Researching online is perfectly fine, but copying text verbatim is not acceptable. In by-lined articles, authors should never pass someone else's words for their own. However, using bulleted lists of facts or statistics from a notable source is fine but the source must always be cited.

Graphics/Artwork

We highly recommend sending any images or artwork to accompany your editorial contribution as there are some topics that are very topic specific and may not be able to be found through our normal stock resource channels. All photographs, illustrations, figures, tables and charts accompanying an article must be identified with a description. For photographs for a story/article please also include a photo caption relating to the discussion/topic. Graphic materials should be submitted electronically. Electronic images must be saved as high-resolution (300 dpi) tiff, jpeg or eps files. When e-mailing images, please compress the files before sending as image files tend to lose resolution or become truncated in transit (this is especially important if you’d like to submit an eps image). We cannot use images submitted in a Microsoft Word Document, PowerPoint presentation or pdf.
